Ok so i thought ur not suppose to grind?
So i've finally decided to create my character in nightfall and i get the Primary Quest "Honorable General" i need to either be Level 12 or First Spear Rank, now I'm Level 10 and did all the quests i have searched the entire map that im allowed to venture i cannot access the city of the first city (explorable area west of Jokanur Diggins) just the ground area before it which is swarming with level 15s, i cannot go to black tides or Beknur Harbor. i am sooo confused from what i understand you never need to grind in guild wars as long as you do most of the quests at least that's how it was in the first 2 games, do i really need to grind to level 12, or do some quests open at level 10 maybe i have searched all the towns but haven't ran the maps again at level 10 just between 8 and 10, thanks alot

Don't worry, you are not the only one discouraged over this part of the storyline, and there aren't any more such cases that I can think of.
It's easiest to just run around killing stuff under Hunts/Bounties to get the requisite rank. It will likely take longer to reach Level 12 without any more quests to do.

Bounties = Hunts that you get from Sunspear Scouts and other Resurrection Shrine NPCs later in the game.

Yeah, it's fairly easy if you find a suitable place to farm out some sunspear points. Just go into an explorable area and make sure you visit every resurrection shrine you see to get the bounties. These bounties will give you points for every insect you kill, for example. Note that some of the earlier areas like the plains of jarin might not give you bounties, depending on how far you have progressed, so it is easiest and most efficient to farm out some of the later areas (such as outside jokanur diggings).

And you never clicked them to find out?
The m0ar you know...
But yeah, pumping your Sunspear rank with bounties is a piece of cake.

yep from doing NF(which i avoid as much as possible ;p) i found it was easier to just lightly grind for a sunspear rank then it is to get to lvl 12.(you might even grind accidentally to lvl 12 first xD).
hope it helps

If you never took any of the bounties it probably explains why you aren't the required sunspear rank yet.

Take a team full of henchies to First City. Get the title... way easier. And just a future tip: there IS another situation like this around the area of Sunspear Sanctuary that only NF chars have to do... get to R7 or something. And for that quest look up Insect Farming in GWWiki... I can't remember the outpost and explorable area names, so I can't help you with those. But the farm is called Insect Farming.

Its not really grind to get the levels needed for that quest just a minor inconvenience that takes a few hours play.
I found some of the factions quests more boring wandering around kaining center on high value but boring as hell quests
Real Grind with a capital G comes later and is completely up to the player whether that take part in the Grind wars or not.

Don't forget to upgrade your heroes weapons and equipment. Good heroes (skills, runes for armor maybe, etc) make a world of difference in ease of play and lowering frustration level. Agree that the shrines are the best way to raise your sunspear rank early on.
On a side note, if you do every quest on the starting island, you will be level 20 when you finish. Some quests require you to listen to people talk for a while before you see a green exclamation appear. I did my dervish in what I call 'slow mode' meaning I just took shrine bonus' and explored all the map edges and did every quest (which I compared to wiki). With no hurry to get to the Consulate Docks mission to get off the island. The XP from the last quest put me at level 20.
Just have fun and don't be in a hurry.

even better, just get to lvl 10 and go to EoTN. The primary quests up there give you 1000's of xp at a time, you get lvl 20 heros, gwen, mox, ogden, etc

Just do some quests and always take the shrine bounties. It is kind of an annoyance, but ever since the title update missions and quests give you sunspear wich combined with the shrine bonuses, makes it quick and relatively painless to achieve the required rank. At least it's easier and much less mindnumbing now than it was before where all you had was going around chopping stuff.

If you grab bounties as you do quests, this isn't a grind at all; you hit the required sunspear rank more or less when you're supposed to. Unfortunately, if you don't know about the bounties, you're liable to get screwed like the OP.

It's all relative. Yes, u have to grind a little so that u can progress, but the amount of grind required is exponentially less than the lvl grind in other games; therefore in comparison to other games, it can be considered not grinding. Make sense?

this is true with the exception that the game should not have you grind. as that was one of the key features of the game, where its a skill game not a level game. if it wasn't for the lv 15 killer beast thingy in the first city, you would be getting minimal exp to no exp at all, as level 5 and below i believe at level 10 would give you 0. while the level 6 exp reward divided by 4 would be something close to 8, when u need 7000 exp to level once ya it would prob take a good portion of the day, which i don't have time for, hence why i play this game and not wow (not putting it down or anything before someone flames me). and thanks all for the help i would be stuck grinding for like a week (as thats how much time i devote to GW) if it wasn't for the sunspear advice.

What I always did was just kill everything standing on the plains of jarin until you don't get options to take the bounties anymore, this also gives you plenty of sunspear points and xp to meet the req to progress forward.
There is another place you will have to grind sunspear points, for the quest And a Hero Shall Lead Them, you will end up needing 2500 for the sunspear general rank.
Also, don't forget to pick up your attributes quests in sunspear great hall.
